Kurallar

• Kural 1: Fiilden isim yapan ekler

  Fiilleri isme çeviren en yaygın ekler: -tion / -sion (explain → explanation), -ment (improve → improvement), -al (arrive → arrival), -ance / -ence (assist → assistance), -ure (fail → failure). Bazı fiillerin isim hâli aynıdır: increase, change, visit.

  Kalıp: fiil + -tion / -ment / -al / -ance / -ure → isim

  Örnek: Scientists observe the stars. → Their observation of the stars … (Bilim insanları yıldızları gözlemliyor. → Yıldızları gözlemlemeleri …)

  Örnek: The team performed well. → The team's performance … (Takım iyi oynadı. → Takımın performansı …)

• Kural 2: Sıfattan isim yapan ekler

  Sıfatları isme çeviren ekler: -ity (able → ability, curious → curiosity), -ness (kind → kindness), -ance / -ence (important → importance, patient → patience), -th (long → length, wide → width, strong → strength).

  Kalıp: sıfat + -ity / -ness / -ance / -th → isim

  Örnek: The water was very deep. → The depth of the water … (Su çok derindi. → Suyun derinliği …)

  Örnek: She was patient with the puppy. → Her patience with the puppy … (Yavru köpeğe karşı sabırlıydı. → Yavru köpeğe karşı sabrı …)

• Kural 3: Cümleyi yeniden kurmak

  İsimleştirince cümlenin yapısı değişir: fiil isme, özne genelde of + isim ya da iyelik ('s, their) olur, zarf da sıfata dönüşür (sharply → sharp, carefully → careful).

  Kalıp: özne + fiil + zarf → the / a + sıfat + isim + of / in + …

  Örnek: Visitors increased sharply. → There was a sharp increase in visitors. (Ziyaretçi sayısı keskin bir şekilde arttı. → Ziyaretçi sayısında keskin bir artış oldu.)

  Örnek: The judges considered the poems carefully. → After careful consideration of the poems, … (Jüri şiirleri dikkatle değerlendirdi. → Şiirlerin dikkatli bir şekilde değerlendirilmesinin ardından …)

• Kural 4: Boşluğa hangi kelime türü?

  Doğru kelime türünü seçmek için boşluğun çevresine bak: the / a / her / their / sıfat + ___ + of / in → isim özne + ___ + nesne → fiil be / a / the + ___ + isim → sıfat ___ + fiil / sıfat → zarf

  Kalıp: the + ___ + of → isim · özne + ___ → fiil · a + ___ + isim → sıfat

  Örnek: The protection of wild animals is important. (Vahşi hayvanların korunması önemli. (the + ___ + of → isim))

  Örnek: The new rules protect wild animals. (Yeni kurallar vahşi hayvanları koruyor. (özne + ___ → fiil))

Sık yapılan hatalar

• The explain of the teacher was clear. → The explanation of the teacher was clear.

  The + ___ + of → isim: explanation.

• There was a sharply increase in prices. → There was a sharp increase in prices.

  İsmin önünde sıfat gelir, zarf değil.

• We were surprised by the long of the line. → We were surprised by the length of the line.

  long sıfat; isim hâli length.
