Zıtlık: although / despite / in spite of / however (-e rağmen)

• Kural 1: although / though / even though + cümle

  Bu kelimelerden sonra özne + fiil içeren tam bir cümle gelir. even though daha güçlü bir zıtlık anlatır.

  Örnek: Although I was tired, I helped my mom. (Yorgun olmama rağmen anneme yardım ettim.)

  Örnek: She kept reading even though it was late. (Geç olmasına rağmen okumaya devam etti.)

• Kural 2: despite / in spite of + isim / -ing

  Bu kelimelerden sonra isim ya da fiil-ing gelir, tam cümle gelmez.

  Kalıp: Despite / In spite of + isim / -ing, …

  Örnek: Despite the noise, I fell asleep. (Gürültüye rağmen uyuyakaldım.)

  Örnek: In spite of running fast, we missed the bus. (Hızlı koşmamıza rağmen otobüsü kaçırdık.)

• Kural 3: However = Yine de / Ancak

  However iki ayrı cümleyi bağlar. Genelde yeni cümlenin başında gelir ve ardından virgül konur.

  Kalıp: Cümle. However, cümle.

  Örnek: The test was hard. However, I passed. (Sınav zordu. Yine de geçtim.)

  Örnek: It's a small room. However, it's very cozy. (Küçük bir oda. Ancak çok rahat.)

• Kural 4: despite the fact that + cümle

  despite ile tam cümle kullanmak istersen the fact that eklersin.

  Kalıp: despite the fact that + özne + fiil

  Örnek: Despite the fact that it was late, we kept playing. (Geç olmasına rağmen oynamaya devam ettik.)

  Örnek: She won despite the fact that she started last. (Yarışa en son başlamasına rağmen kazandı.)

Sık yapılan hatalar

• Despite of the rain, we went out. → Despite the rain, we went out.

  despite of yok; despite ya da in spite of.

• Although the rain, we went out. → Although it was raining, we went out.

  although + cümle.

• Despite it was raining, we went out. → Despite the fact that it was raining, we went out.

  despite + cümle için the fact that.
