Question tags (…, değil mi?)

Kurallar

• Kural 1: Olumlu → olumsuz, olumsuz → olumlu

  Cümle olumlu ise tag olumsuz, cümle olumsuz ise tag olumlu olur. Cümledeki yardımcı fiili (is, are, can, will, have, should …) tekrar ederiz.

  Kalıp: olumlu cümle, olumsuz tag? · olumsuz cümle, olumlu tag?

  Örnek: Your brother is in seventh grade, isn't he? (Erkek kardeşin 7. sınıfta, değil mi?)

  Örnek: We haven't met before, have we? (Daha önce tanışmadık, değil mi?)

• Kural 2: Yardımcı fiil yoksa do / does / did

  Geniş zaman ve geçmiş zamanın olumlu cümlelerinde yardımcı fiil görünmez. O zaman tag'de do / does / did kullanırız.

  Kalıp: I/you/we/they + V → don't? · he/she/it + V-s → doesn't? · V2 → didn't?

  Örnek: Your dog loves bananas, doesn't it? (Köpeğin muzu çok seviyor, değil mi?)

  Örnek: You watched the match, didn't you? (Maçı izledin, değil mi?)

• Kural 3: Tag'de her zaman zamir

  Tag'de isim değil zamir kullanılır: *Tom → he, Mrs. Kaya → she, the movie → it, my parents → they*. this / that → it, everyone / nobody → they, There is … → there.

  Kalıp: yardımcı fiil + zamir?

  Örnek: That was a great concert, wasn't it? (Harika bir konserdi, değil mi?)

  Örnek: There are twelve months in a year, aren't there? (Bir yılda on iki ay var, değil mi?)

• Kural 4: Özel durumlar

  I'm … → aren't I? (standart İngilizcede ~~amn't I~~ yok). Let's … → shall we? (Amerikan İngilizcesinde günlük dilde *Let's go, okay?* de çok yaygındır.) Emir cümleleri → will you? never, nobody, nothing, hardly cümleyi olumsuz yapar → tag olumlu.

  Kalıp: I'm … aren't I? · Let's … shall we? · Emir … will you?

  Örnek: Let's take a photo, shall we? (Hadi bir fotoğraf çekelim, olur mu?)

  Örnek: Nobody saw the fox, did they? (Tilkiyi kimse görmedi, değil mi?)

Sık yapılan hatalar

• You like apples, isn't it? → You like apples, don't you?

  Tag her cümlede “isn't it” değildir; Türkçedeki sabit “değil mi?” gibi düşünme.

• Ali is late, isn't Ali? → Ali is late, isn't he?

  Tag'de isim değil zamir: he.

• She never eats fish, doesn't she? → She never eats fish, does she?

  never cümleyi olumsuz yapar → olumlu tag.
