Object pronouns: me, you, him, her…
After a verb or a preposition (with, to, for, at…) we use object pronouns.
One step at a timeRules
Rule 1: After a verb
After a verb (love, help, see, call, like…) use an object pronoun.
Pattern: Subject + verb + me / him / her / us / them
Example: Grandma hugs me every day.
Example: I know him. He's in my class.
Rule 2: After a preposition
After small words like with, for, to, at, next to, about, use an object pronoun too.
Pattern: with / for / to / at + me / him / her / us / them
Example: This present is for you.
Example: Can I sit next to her?
Rule 3: him, her, it or them?
A boy or man → him. A girl or woman → her. A thing or animal → it. More than one → them.
Pattern: boy/man → him · girl/woman → her · thing/animal → it · plural → them
Example: Where's my scarf? I need it.
Example: My aunt is here. Let's say hello to her.
Rule 4: you and it don't change
you and it are the same as subjects and objects. The others change: I → me, he → him, she → her, we → us, they → them.
Pattern: you → you · it → it
Example: You are kind. I like you.
Example: It is a nice song. Listen to it!
