Kurallar

• Kural 1: It + is + sıfat

  Havayı anlatırken It is (kısaca It's) + hava sıfatı kullanırız. ~~Is sunny~~ olmaz, özne (It) şart!

  Kalıp: It's (It is) + sunny / rainy / cold …

  Örnek: It's windy in Istanbul. (İstanbul'da hava rüzgârlı.)

  Örnek: It is hot in August. (Ağustos'ta hava sıcaktır.)

• Kural 2: İsim + y = sıfat

  Pek çok hava sıfatı, isme -y ekleyerek yapılır. Dikkat: sun → sunny (n ikilenir)!

  Kalıp: sun → sunny · rain → rainy · wind → windy · snow → snowy · cloud → cloudy

  Örnek: I see the sun. It's sunny. (Güneşi görüyorum. Hava güneşli.)

  Örnek: There's a lot of snow. It's snowy. (Çok kar var. Hava karlı.)

• Kural 3: What's the weather like?

  Havayı sormak için What's the weather like? deriz. Buradaki like “sevmek” değil, “nasıl” demektir. Kısa hâli: How's the weather?

  Örnek: What's the weather like? — It's cloudy. (Hava nasıl? — Bulutlu.)

  Örnek: How's the weather in Izmir? — It's warm. (İzmir'de hava nasıl? — Ilık.)

• Kural 4: Soru ve olumsuz

  Soru için is başa geçer: Is it cold? Olumsuz için isn't (is not) kullanırız.

  Kalıp: Is it …? — Yes, it is. / No, it isn't.

  Örnek: Is it snowy? — Yes, it is. (Kar var mı? — Evet, var.)

  Örnek: It isn't hot. It's cool. (Hava sıcak değil. Serin.)

Sık yapılan hatalar

• Is sunny today. → It's sunny today.

  İngilizcede cümle öznesiz olmaz: It's.

• It's sun. → It's sunny.

  It's'ten sonra isim (sun) değil, sıfat (sunny) gelir.

• Its cold. → It's cold.

  It's = it is. “its” onun demektir.
