Kurallar

• Kural 1: Tek şey → there is

  Tek bir şey ya da sayılamayan bir şey (milk, water, juice, bread) için there is kullanırız. Kısaltması: there's.

  Kalıp: There is + a / an + tek şey

  Örnek: There is a lamp next to my bed. (Yatağımın yanında bir lamba var.)

  Örnek: There is some bread on the plate. (Tabakta biraz ekmek var.)

• Kural 2: Birden fazla → there are

  Birden fazla şey için there are kullanırız. Arkasından birden fazla şey gelir (two cats, some eggs, many stars).

  Kalıp: There are + birden fazla şey

  Örnek: There are six eggs in the box. (Kutuda altı yumurta var.)

  Örnek: There are some ducks on the lake. (Gölde birkaç ördek var.)

• Kural 3: “Yok” → there isn't / there aren't

  Olumsuz için not ekleriz: there isn't (tek), there aren't (çok). Çoğul ve sayılamayan isimlerle “hiç” anlamında any kullanırız. There are no … da “hiç … yok” demektir.

  Örnek: There isn't a computer in our classroom. (Sınıfımızda bilgisayar yok.)

  Örnek: There aren't any chairs in the room. (Odada hiç sandalye yok.)

• Kural 4: Soru → Is there / Are there

  Soru için is / are başa geçer: Is there…? Are there…? Kısa cevap: Yes, there is. / No, there aren't. Sayı sormak için: How many … are there?

  Kalıp: Is there a …? · Are there any …? · How many … are there?

  Örnek: Is there a playground near here? — Yes, there is. (Buralarda oyun parkı var mı? — Evet, var.)

  Örnek: Are there any bananas? — No, there aren't. (Hiç muz var mı? — Hayır, yok.)

Sık yapılan hatalar

• There have a cat in the garden. → There is a cat in the garden.

  Bir yerde bir şey “var” derken have değil, there is kullanılır. (Sahiplik ayrı: I have a cat = Bir kedim var.)

• There is three apples. → There are three apples.

  Birden fazla → are.

• In the box a pencil. → There is a pencil in the box.

  “Kutuda bir kalem var” derken There is atlanmaz.
