• Kural 1: Talep fiili + that + yalın fiil

  insist, suggest, recommend, demand, request, propose, ask, require, urge gibi talep ve öneri fiillerinden sonra that + özne + fiilin yalın hâli gelir. he / she / it ile bile -s eklenmez, zaman kayması olmaz. (İngiliz İngilizcesinde aynı anlam should + fiil ile de verilir: *I suggest that she should take a jacket*; günlük İngiliz dilinde *takes* da duyulur. Amerikan İngilizcesinde ve resmî dilde yalın fiil standarttır.)

  Kalıp: insist / suggest / recommend … + that + özne + yalın fiil

  Örnek: The coach recommended that Burak stretch before every run. (Antrenör, Burak'ın her koşudan önce esneme yapmasını önerdi.)

  Örnek: The rules require that each team have a captain. (Kurallar her takımın bir kaptanı olmasını gerektiriyor.)

• Kural 2: It is essential / vital … that + yalın fiil

  essential, vital, important, necessary, crucial, imperative gibi “önemli / gerekli” anlamındaki sıfatlardan sonra da aynı kural geçerli: It is … that + özne + yalın fiil.

  Kalıp: It is essential / vital / important … that + özne + yalın fiil

  Örnek: It is vital that the goalkeeper stay focused until the final whistle. (Kalecinin son düdüğe kadar odaklı kalması hayati önem taşıyor.)

  Örnek: It is important that every child feel safe at school. (Her çocuğun okulda kendini güvende hissetmesi önemli.)

• Kural 3: Olumsuz ve edilgen hâl

  Olumsuzda do / does / don't kullanılmaz; fiilin önüne sadece not gelir: that he not be late. Edilgen yapıda be + V3: that it be done.

  Kalıp: … that + özne + not + yalın fiil · … that + özne + be + V3

  Örnek: The museum asks that visitors not take photos with flash. (Müze, ziyaretçilerin flaşla fotoğraf çekmemesini rica ediyor.)

  Örnek: The principal insisted that the broken swing be repaired at once. (Müdür, kırık salıncağın hemen tamir edilmesinde ısrar etti.)

• Kural 4: were-subjunctive: hayali durumlar

  Gerçek olmayan durumlarda be fiili her özneyle were olur: If I were, I wish she were, as if he were, I'd rather it were. It's high time + geçmiş zaman da benzer bir hayali anlam taşır. Resmî dilde if atılıp Were başa gelebilir: *Were I you, …*

  Kalıp: if / wish / as if / would rather + özne + were · Were + özne + …

  Örnek: She talks about the movie as if she were the director. (Filmden sanki yönetmeniymiş gibi bahsediyor.)

  Örnek: Were I the mayor, I would plant more trees. (Belediye başkanı olsaydım daha çok ağaç dikerdim.)

Sık yapılan hatalar

• The doctor recommended that she drinks more water. → The doctor recommended that she drink more water.

  Amerikan İngilizcesinde ve resmî dilde -s yok: yalın fiil. (İngiliz İngilizcesinde *should drink* da olur.)

• I suggest that you don't use your phone. → I suggest that you not use your phone.

  Olumsuzda sadece not + yalın fiil (resmî dil).

• It is important that he is told. → It is important that he be told.

  Resmî dilde edilgen subjunctive: be + V3.
