İleri modal yapılar (needn't have, be bound to, be supposed to…)

Kurallar

• Kural 1: needn't have + V3

  Eylem yapıldı ama sonradan gereksiz olduğu anlaşıldı. Türkçede “…mene gerek yokmuş”.

  Kalıp: özne + needn't have + V3

  Örnek: You needn't have bought bread. We have plenty. (Ekmek almana gerek yoktu. Bol bol var.)

  Örnek: I needn't have run. The bus was late. (Koşmama gerek yokmuş. Otobüs gecikti.)

• Kural 2: didn't need to + fiil

  O zaman gerekli değildi. Genellikle eylem yapılmadı. Türk öğrenciler iki yapıyı sık karıştırır: “yaptım mı?” diye sor!

  Kalıp: özne + didn't need to + yalın fiil

  Örnek: I didn't need to cook; we ordered pizza. (Yemek yapmama gerek kalmadı; pizza söyledik.)

  Örnek: She didn't need to study, so she went out. (Çalışmasına gerek yoktu, bu yüzden dışarı çıktı.)

• Kural 3: be bound to / be likely to / be sure to

  be bound to ve be sure / certain to = “kesin …acak”. be likely to = “muhtemelen …acak”; be unlikely to = “pek olası değil”. Hepsinde to + yalın fiil.

  Kalıp: be + bound / sure / likely + to + fiil

  Örnek: Our team is bound to win today. (Takımımız bugün kesin kazanacak.)

  Örnek: The roads are likely to be busy. (Yollar muhtemelen kalabalık olacak.)

• Kural 4: be supposed to, be due to, be to

  be supposed to = kural, beklenti ya da plan; was supposed to = olması gerekiyordu ama olmadı; not supposed to = yapılmamalı. be due to saatli programlar için, be to resmî talimat ve planlar için.

  Kalıp: be + supposed / due + to + fiil · be + to + fiil

  Örnek: We are supposed to be quiet in the library. (Kütüphanede sessiz olmamız gerekiyor.)

  Örnek: The movie was supposed to start at six. (Filmin altıda başlaması gerekiyordu.)

Sık yapılan hatalar

• You needn't have to bring food. → You needn't have brought food.

  Kalıp needn't have + V3; araya *to* girmez.

• We suppose to be there at five. → We are supposed to be there at five.

  be ve -d unutulmamalı: *are supposed to*.

• It's bound rain later. → It's bound to rain later.

  bound her zaman to ile gelir.
