  Geçmişteki iki olaydan önce olanı gösterir. had + V3 her özneyle aynıdır (I had, she had, they had).

• Past perfect

  önce olan (had + V3); sonra olan (V2)

  Kalıp: Özne + had + V3

  Örnek: When we got to the station, the train had already left.

  Örnek: I had never seen snow before I visited Erzurum.

• Formül

  Olumlu: We had eaten before the movie started. · Olumsuz: I hadn't seen the movie before. · Soru: Had you met him before? · Kısa cevap: Yes, I had. / No, I hadn't.

  Önce: film başladı. Sonra: biz vardık.

  Örnek: When we arrived, the movie had already started. (Biz vardığımızda, film çoktan başlamıştı.)

  Örnek: I had never flown before that trip. (O geziden önce hiç uçağa binmemiştim.)

  Örnek: The bus had already left. (Otobüs çoktan gitmişti.)

  Örnek: I had never seen a giraffe before. (Daha önce hiç zürafa görmemiştim.)

• İpucu

  En sık hata: her geçmiş olayda had kullanmak. Olaylar sırayla anlatılıyorsa past simple yeter: I woke up, ate breakfast and left. Past perfect, önce olanı ayrıca işaretlemek gerektiğinde gelir: When I arrived, they had left.
