must / have to / should

Kurallar

• Kural 1: must ve have to = zorunluluk

  must ve have to “yapmak zorunda / -meli” anlamına gelir. must hiç değişmez. have to ise he / she / it ile has to olur.

  Kalıp: özne + must / have to / has to + yalın fiil

  Örnek: We must listen to the coach. (Antrenörü dinlemeliyiz.)

  Örnek: I have to tidy my room. (Odamı toplamak zorundayım.)

• Kural 2: mustn't = yasak!

  mustn't (must not) “yapma, yasak!” demektir. Kurallarda ve tabelalarda çok görülür. Amerikan İngilizcesinde konuşurken yasak için daha çok can't kullanılır: You can't swim here.

  Kalıp: özne + mustn't + yalın fiil

  Örnek: You mustn't swim here. It's dangerous. (Burada yüzmemelisin. Tehlikeli.)

  Örnek: We mustn't eat in the classroom. (Sınıfta yemek yememeliyiz.)

• Kural 3: don't have to = gerek yok

  don't have to “yapmak zorunda değilsin, yapmasan da olur” demektir. Yasak değildir! he / she / it ile doesn't have to kullanılır.

  Kalıp: özne + don't / doesn't have to + yalın fiil

  Örnek: You don't have to bring a pencil. I have one. (Kalem getirmek zorunda değilsin. Bende var.)

  Örnek: Ela doesn't have to go to school today. (Ela bugün okula gitmek zorunda değil.)

• Kural 4: should / shouldn't = tavsiye

  should bir fikir ya da tavsiye verir: “yapsan iyi olur”. shouldn't ise “yapmasan iyi olur” demektir. Zorunluluk kadar güçlü değildir.

  Kalıp: özne + should / shouldn't + yalın fiil

  Örnek: You should wear a coat. It's cold. (Mont giysen iyi olur. Hava soğuk.)

  Örnek: You shouldn't stay up so late. (Bu kadar geç yatmamalısın.)

Sık yapılan hatalar

• You must to go. → You must go.

  must ve should'dan sonra to gelmez.

• She have to study. → She has to study.

  she ile has to kullanılır.

• You mustn't come. (= Gelmesen de olur.) → You don't have to come.

  mustn't yasak demek; “gerek yok” için don't have to kullanılır.
