Dolaylı sorular: Could you tell me…? Do you know…?

Kurallar

• Kural 1: Soru sırası yok, cevap sırası var

  Dolaylı sorunun içinde özne önce, fiil sonra gelir; tıpkı düz bir cümlede olduğu gibi.

  Kalıp: Could you tell me + soru kelimesi + özne + fiil

  Örnek: Where is the gym? → Do you know where the gym is? (Spor salonu nerede? → Spor salonunun nerede olduğunu biliyor musun?)

  Örnek: What can we do? → I wonder what we can do. (Ne yapabiliriz? → Ne yapabileceğimizi merak ediyorum.)

• Kural 2: do / does / did kaybolur

  Düz soruda kullandığımız do / does / did dolaylı soruda kullanılmaz. Zaman ve -s eki fiile geri döner.

  Kalıp: does + start → starts · did + go → went

  Örnek: What time does it start? → Do you know what time it starts? (Saat kaçta başlıyor? → Saat kaçta başladığını biliyor musun?)

  Örnek: Where did she go? → I wonder where she went. (Nereye gitti? → Nereye gittiğini merak ediyorum.)

• Kural 3: Evet/hayır soruları → if / whether

  Soru kelimesi yoksa (Is…? Do…? Can…?) başa if ya da whether gelir. İkisi de “-ip -mediğini” anlamı verir. “or not” hemen arkadan geliyorsa yalnızca whether olur.

  Kalıp: Do you know if / whether + özne + fiil

  Örnek: Does Mia like jazz? → Do you know if Mia likes jazz? (Mia caz sever mi? → Mia'nın caz sevip sevmediğini biliyor musun?)

  Örnek: I'm not sure whether or not it's true. (Doğru olup olmadığından emin değilim.)

• Kural 4: Özne soruları değişmez

  who / what cümlenin öznesi ise (kim yaptı? ne oldu?) sıra zaten düzdür ve do/does/did yoktur. Dolaylı soruda aynen kalır.

  Kalıp: Do you know who + fiil …?

  Örnek: Who took my pencil? → Do you know who took my pencil? (Kalemimi kim aldı? → Kalemimi kimin aldığını biliyor musun?)

  Örnek: What happened? → Tell me what happened. (Ne oldu? → Ne olduğunu anlat bana.)

Sık yapılan hatalar

• Could you tell me where is the station? → Could you tell me where the station is?

  Dolaylı soruda soru sırası kullanılmaz.

• Do you know what time does the show start? → Do you know what time the show starts?

  does kaybolur, -s fiile döner.

• I don't know is it true. → I don't know if it is true.

  Evet/hayır sorusunda if/whether gerekir.
